Dr Paul Cliff Simon Divis
BBiomedSc (Hon), MSc (Molecular Parasitology), PhD (Parasitology)
Director
pcsimon@unimas.my

Paul’s research interest includes zoonotic malaria, molecular epidemiology and population genetics. Currently, he investigates various research projects, which includes: (i) spatio-temporal epidemiology of genetically divergent Plasmodium knowlesi subpopulations in Sarawak, (ii) molecular epidemiology and assessing risk factors of zoonotic malaria among the community in Malaysian and Indonesian Borneo, (iii) population genomics and evolution of Plasmodium knowlesi, and (iv) biodiversity of mosquitoes as potential vector for zoonotic malaria in Sarawak. Paul has held numerous research grants from various local and international funders (UNIMAS, Malaysia Ministry of Higher Education, Sarawak Government, oversea university, Southeast Asian Research Funding agency). He collaborates with many researchers from local and oversea laboratories and agencies, among them are Sarawak State Health Department, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Kasetsart University Thailand, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Universitas Tanjungpura, Curtin University Australia, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Wellcome Sanger Institute UK. Paul’s research has been published in various international peer-reviewed journals. He has mentored six postgraduate students, 3 (1 PhD and 2 MSc) of whom are currently in progress.

Research Fellow
ykhatijah@unimas.my

Khatijah’s research interest includes biology, molecular and biodiversity of insect vectors and also chemical ecology of insect vectors.  She participates in various research projects such as identification of human and zoonotic malaria vectors and biodiversity of mosquitoes as potential vector for zoonotic malaria in Sarawak. She has held few research grants as principal and co-researcher from internal (UNIMAS) and external grants (Malaysia Ministry of Higher Education and Sarawak Government). Khatijah collaborates with researchers from UNIMAS as well as Sarawak State Health Department. She has one PhD student (Molecular Entomology) who has graduated previously.
